About

Why Soulshine Percussion? Because learning and playing drums and percussion really does make your soul shine!

I enjoy teaching and playing, but I'm also enthusiastic about sharing the joy and benefits that these types of musical instruments can bring into your life.

As well as articles and resources about the many benefits of music, there's also the shop where I can share art and other percussion related products that can brighten up your space.
My Drumming Journey
My drumming journey, or call it an addiction, started in the 90's in Darwin, Australia.

I was on the way to the UK, but was hanging out in the Northern Territory for a couple months.

My friend who I was staying with had just recently discovered a drumming class, so I went along.

It fascinated me and I was immediately hooked.

So I began learning and we even had a couple of small performances.

On arrival in the UK I began more lessons with a couple of French guys in Camden, London.

I then moved to Bristol where I continued to learn more Ghanaian and West African style percussion with Ben Lawrence of Ghana Goods.

I performed with the the Ghana Goods band at drum festivals and local gigs as well as having a part-time job in the Ghana Goods store where I learnt how to re-skin drums.

I've also played congas for a local Bristol singer songwriter and other drum performers.

I moved back to Australia where I lived in the Northern Rivers area for a while being involved in a number of musical projects.

I'm now happy in Perth and still enthusiastic about drumming and sharing the fun and benefits with the community.
